Strategic Advantage)
West
Island College was seeking a way to automate the tracking
of Citizenship Evaluations and House Points, to identify candidates
for academic awards, and generate report cards in the format
they wished. In the past, administrative staff manually collected
and summarized each student's file allowing the Headmaster
to review and authorize an overall term score. The TKCS system
automates the recording and summarizing function, and calculates
an average based on complex parameters. The Headmaster can
now easily review this information, and approve or change
the calculated mark, saving a significant amount of administrative
time.
The TKCS database collects rankings of different "respect"
areas awarded by teachers and administrative staff. The rankings
are alphabetical, but are calculated and averaged through
a set of complex formulas as defined by the College. TKCS
has also built in a system of tracking House Points for internal
rewards.
Students
are recognized both individually and by teams for their academic
and extracurricular performance. Reports may be created at
any time during the semester to identify the achievers and
underachievers, allowing staff to take appropriate measures
if necessary.
Academic awards are calculated and reported by drawing upon
information from the College's student administration software.
Customized report cards are generated to reflect the information,
and are displayed in a format consistent with West Island's
high standards. The report card also contains information
for parents to understand the awards and citizenship rankings.
In addition, student activities can be exported directly in
a print-ready format for the yearbook. West Island is now
easily able to recognize students for their extracurricular
and academic achievements.
